Function and Structure
Family Champions are a group of individuals serving as advocates for the prevention and treatment of substance use by supporting the work of The Family Effect. A Champion’s support to The Family Effect is often personalized to their skills, talents, and interests. There is no term of service or requirement for monetary donation.

Ways to Get Started
1. Complete orientation process including confidentiality agreement
2. Participate in a facility tour to learn more about Phoenix Center services
3. Enroll to receive monthly newsletters from Phoenix Center
4. Communicate your interests, amount of personal time you can commit to the mission, and your general availability
5. Communicate and work with staff in the coordination of tasks, accomplishments, and ideas to move the mission forward
6. Choose at least one area to get involved. Family Champion tiers below!
Volunteer Champion

Rock babies, lead a color run, and have a dance party with the kids at Serenity Place
Cook and serve a meal to the families at Serenity Place
Lead a class on resume building, interview skills, budgeting, or cooking
Develop positive alternatives to cope with the difficulties of adolescence
Sponsor a family for the holidays or during transition
Anything else you can think of!
Event Champion

Attend at least 1 community event on our behalf
Thank the host agency for what they do in our community
Talk about what we do to serve our community and how we support the host agency
Wear your Family Effect or Phoenix Center swag to generate conversation
Social Champion
(Social Butterfly)
Tell your friends, family, or coworkers how much you love us and the work we do
Host an event to raise awareness of our mission and work
Invite at least one individual to attend a facility tour or Family Effect event per year
Use your influence for good
Committee Champion (Roll Up Your Sleeves)
Choose a committee that speaks to your skills and attend it regularly
Participate fully and use your expertise to ensure the committee meets its goals
Dive into the weeds and get your hands dirty with the rest of us
Board Development Champion

Attend board meetings and provide insight to new members
Provide mentorship to students on the Greenville County Youth Board
Work with local student council organizations about public service work
